Supoño que Saramago non procuraba unha explicación científica a enfermidade. Digamos que a enfermidade, a cegueira espontánea era a excusa pra que os personaxes estiveran nunha situación que rozase a tolemia colectiva, quería acadesen o límite do humano. Este libro gustoume moito porque mostra cómo persoas que en principio son boas, tórnanse malvadas pra sobrevivir nunha situación extrema, pero entre as que sempre hai alguen de bo fondo. É verdade que en moitas partes da novela os personaxes toman decisións especialmente erróneas, e incluso absurdas, pero, ¿non o vemos todolos días na vida real? ¿Non é certo que máis dunha vez quedamos abraiados diante do telexornal, escoitando unha noticia sobre un asasinato, ou sobre a prostitución, ou as mafias e os accidentes de tráfico? É verdade que en certo modo, a vida en si mesma é absurda, e moitas veces carece de sentido.
Lin outro libro de Saramago, “As Intermitencias da Morte”, e a verdade é que me custou moitísimo lelo, e aínda máis entendelo. Co libro “A caverna” pasoume o mesmo, e de feito non o cheguei a rematar… Algún día.
Veña, perdoa por tan extensa diserción literaria, e espero que publiques moito sobre libros que les porque a min apaixóname a lectura.

Documentarse para hacer una novela sobre la estupidez humana, que de eso va este Ensayo sobre la Ceguera, y en general la obra de Saramago, no tiene sentido. Equivaldría a poner cerrojos en los contenedores de basura, o a intentar entender la burocracia desde el punto de vista de la necesidad humana de relaciones sociales.
